Biography
Wendy A. Smith
Wendy A. Smith is a Certified Prosthetist with 25 years of experience in the field of somatic or body prosthetics. She moved to Winnipeg from Ontario and worked as a Certified Prosthetist at the Health Sciences Centre for many years, providing a wide range of weight-bearing and functional limbs. During that time, Wendy identified several areas of Prosthetics that were lacking in service; one being partial finger prosthetics.
Since nobody was willing or able to provide this service in Winnipeg, Wendy taught herself the necessary skills to complement her training as a Certified Prosthetist and in 1995 Lifeart Prosthetics Inc. was born.
Blending her artistic creativity and her prosthetic experience, she has created a business that grows and changes according to her client’s needs. Wendy is also a Certified Clinical Anaplastologist which requires a different yet related skill set.
One aspect of Lifeart that Wendy is very proud of is the creation of “The Breast Dressed Program”. This program uses the holistic approach to helping women deal with breast cancer and it’s after effects. Wendy designs, builds and fits lightweight, comfortable and beautiful specialty prosthetics for the breast, partial hand and finger, face and other areas of the body.
Wendy is active in the areas of improving service accessibility, research and development and creating awareness about the “Prosthetic World”. Wendy is also an enthusiastic artist that enjoys many mediums of expression, including the creation of “one of a kind”, body sculptures.
